Essential Tips for Maintaining Your Flooring

Your flooring plays a crucial role in the overall look and functionality of your home. Whether you have EVP (engineered vinyl plank) or carpet, proper maintenance is key to preserving their beauty and longevity. At CBH Homes, we want to help you keep your floors in excellent condition for years to come. Here are some essential tips to ensure your flooring remains in top shape.

1. Regular Cleaning is Key

Routine cleaning is fundamental in maintaining your floors. For EVP flooring, a weekly sweep or dry mop helps prevent dirt and dust from accumulating and scratching the surface. Over time, debris can dull the finish, reducing its shine. For carpet, vacuuming at least once a week is essential to remove dirt, dust, and pet hair that can wear down fibers and shorten its lifespan. Regular maintenance not only improves appearance but also extends the life of your floors.

2. Use the Right Cleaning Tools

Using appropriate cleaning tools can make a significant difference in preserving your flooring. When cleaning EVP floors, opt for a dry mop or microfiber cloth—wet mopping is not recommended, as excessive moisture can cause warping and damage.

For carpet, choose a vacuum with strong suction power and avoid those with beater bars, as they can damage delicate fibers. Investing in the right cleaning tools ensures your floors stay in pristine condition for years to come.

3. Protect High-Traffic Areas

Hallways, entryways, and other high-traffic areas tend to wear down faster. To minimize damage, use area rugs or runners in these spaces, especially where shoes are frequently worn. If you have EVP flooring, consider placing felt pads under furniture legs to prevent scratches and dents. Taking these small steps can go a long way in maintaining your floor’s appearance and durability.

4. Address Spills Immediately

Accidents happen, but quick action can prevent long-term damage. For hard floors, wipe up spills immediately with a soft cloth to prevent liquids from seeping into the surface. For carpet, always blot spills rather than rubbing them—rubbing can push the liquid deeper into the fibers, making stains harder to remove.

CBH Homes carpets come with a stain-resistant sealant applied before closing, offering protection from spills and stains for up to two years. However, immediate cleanup is still recommended to keep carpets looking fresh and clean.

5. Schedule Professional Deep Cleaning

Even with regular upkeep, professional cleaning once a year is highly recommended. For carpets, professional deep cleaning helps restore their appearance by removing embedded dirt and stubborn stains. Likewise, EVP flooring benefits from occasional professional care to maintain its original finish and longevity.
