What Is There To Do Outdoors?

Mountain Home is the perfect jumping off place for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the great outdoors from hiking and biking, to fishing and boating.

1. Bruneau Sand Dunes

About 25 minutes south of downtown, you'll find Bruneau Dunes State Park. Enjoy the sand by way of hiking boots, horses, sandboard rental, or an off-road vehicle (main roads only). Organize a picnic or go fishing at the nearby lakes. Go for a quick day trip or stay overnight by reserving a campsite or cabin - those who stay overnight can access the Observatory's collection of telescopes!

2. Anderson Ranch Reservoir

Looking to fish for rainbow trout, bass, perch, or kokanee? Bring your boat to Anderson Ranch Reservoir for excellent, year-round fishing. You may also see some water skiers along the 14 mile long waterway as well as some adventurous hikers.

3. Camp Creek Trail

With so many public parks around, it's difficult to choose the best hiking spot. Camp Creek Trail is great for hikers and mountain bikers alike with 6 miles of moderately difficult terrain. Note: The trail is typically open from mid-May to the end of September, pending weather conditions. The trailhead has easily accessible parking.

4. Desert Canyon Golf Course

Get 18 holes with 360 degree views year round - the front 9 is tree-lined and the back 9 runs along the canyon. The course has been described as “challenging, yet fair” - celebrate your win (or challenge your loss!) with your fellow golfers at the on-site bar and grill.

5. Oregon Trail

History buff or a fan of the old Oregon Trail? Follow the pioneers along the Oregon Trail Backcountry Byway or head to Three Island Crossings for wagon and Conestoga replicas along the Snake River.

Idaho is home to a rapidly growing and award-winning wine industry thanks to volcanic ash soil and spring fed water from The Snake River.

Just a short drive from Mountain Home to Glenns Ferry, The Y Knot Winery offers tours and tastings at their vineyard overlooking The Snake River. They also offer an on-site restaurant and a golf course that boasts a very relaxed dress code - say no more! Perhaps their best kept secret is their ability to pick up guests from the nearby airport and take them directly to the vineyard - the perfect place to host out of town visitors.

Throughout the summer months, The Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce hosts their Art, Craft, & Wine Stroll starting at Carl Miller Park. Find all your favorites plus food trucks and live music. Must be 21 years of age to attend.

Elmore County Fair & Rodeo

The Elmore County Fair & Rodeo isn't restricted to your beloved fair foods and rodeo show! For the animal lovers, find dog shows, swine, sheep, goat, beef, and dairy weigh-ins, as well as animal showmanship, petting zoo, and livestock sales. For the adventure seekers, the fair offers a climbing wall, zipline, paintballing, wagon rides, live music, and more. Don't miss the annual fun every July!

Every year, Mountain Home welcomes craft breweries across Idaho to show off their best brews and help the locals cool off.
