If you’re looking to catch an event in the downtown area, there are plenty of venues for you to choose from. Whether it’s a hockey game at the Centurylink Arena, a concert at the Knitting Factory, or a date night to the Boise Contemporary Theatre, there is always a new experience to be had. All just a few miles from our neighborhoods.
Bogus Basin
When it comes getting outside, living in Boise offers uncommon access and opportunity, no matter what you’re into. Everything from mountains hikes to river runs are right at your fingertips. Starting at the top, literally, is Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area. Situated less than 20 miles from downtown Boise and rising 4852 feet above the city, Bogus Basin is an all season hub for outdoor activities. During the winter months, take advantage of challenging and amazingly well-maintained ski runs at the Bogus Basin Ski Resort, or go off the beaten path to discover secluded snowshoeing trails. During the warmer months, grab some fresh mountain air on the hiking and mountain biking trails, or just take in the views of the entire Treasure Valley below from one of the many roadside pull-outs.

Ridge to Rivers Trail System
Heading south from Bogus Basin towards Boise you will pass through the Boise Foothills. It's there that you are guaranteed to catch sight of the trail system crisscrossing the landscape. The Boise foothills play host to hundreds of miles of trails to explore and adventure along. The perfectly named, Ridge To Rivers Trail System, offers convenience that is unparalleled thanks to the hundreds of trailheads scattered across Boise at the base of the foothills.

Table Rock
Looking for a fresh air adventure that is a little closer to the central Boise area? Then the Table Rock Area is not to be missed. This stone mesa is just a few miles outside of downtown Boise and allows visitors the option to hike up to the top or drive up the mostly paved road to the top for panoramic views of Boise and the Treasure Valley. The views are truly breathtaking and offer a wonderful and unforgettable perspective of the city below.

Lucky Peak and Arrowrock Reservoir
Ready to get out on the water for a day? Just 15 minutes to the east of Boise is Lucky Peak and Arrowrock Reservoir. These expansive bodies of water are a great place to get out on the boat for wakesurfing and tubing, or to enjoy a calm day of fishing. With hundreds of bays and inlets to explore, it’s the perfect place to easily get out of Boise for the day and cool off.

Boise River
Like a trail leading back to Boise from Lucky Peak, and one of the things that stands out about the city is the winding river that runs through the middle of it. The Boise River is one of Boise’s best outdoor assets. The riverbanks offer great places to gather with family and friends. In the summer thousands of Boise residents spend the hot afternoons floating from Barber Park (in East Boise) to Ann Morrison Park (near downtown Boise).

World Center for Birds of Prey and Zoo Boise
For a world-class wildlife encounter, head 10 minutes out of Boise and visit the World Center For Birds Of Prey. This wildlife sanctuary offers an up-close look at eagles, hawks, falcons, owls and other raptors in a safe and educational setting. Just across the river from Zoo Boise sits the Discovery Center of Idaho. For those looking to expand their minds and put some science to the test, the Discovery Center is a hands-on learning experience that is fun for all ages. They even host adult-only science-based mixology classes from time to time.

Idaho Botanical Garden
Another can’t miss to-do while living in Boise is the Idaho Botanical Garden. This 50-acre piece of land welcomes those looking to enjoy the beauty of nature in all its forms. While the warmer seasons help the plants and flowers grow to amazement, the winter also brings Winter Garden A Glow, which allows visitors to wander the festively lit gardens during the chilly months. The garden also attached the Old Idaho State Penitentiary, which offers daily tours of the now out-of-operation facility and grounds. During the summer months, some of the surrounding land is converted into the Outlaw Field, which hosts an amazing summer concert series. All of these exciting experiences just below Table Rock, a few miles from our communities.

Boise Art Museum and the Idaho Shakespeare Festival
Arts & Culture are a huge focus in the Boise community. The Boise Art Museum in downtown Boise, just minutes from our communities, features rotating expositions throughout the year. One of Boise’s brightest gems, however, is the Idaho Shakespeare Festival. Situated just east of downtown, just off the Boise River, this outdoor amphitheater has been entertaining audiences since 1977. With high-end productions, gripping stories, and world-class acting, a show under the summer stars is not to be missed.

In Boise, it’s technically illegal to ride a merry-go-round on Sunday. As you can imagine, it’s not a top priority for local law enforcement.
