Arboretum Park

Located in downtown Eagle, Arboretum Park is a sight to behold in all four seasons. It’s a true arboretum in the sense that many different types of trees and shrubs are grown there, both for display and for study. Each of Arboretum Park’s 37 varieties of trees are identified by a name stake, which explain their scientific name, common name, and family. For nature lovers and aspiring arborists/botanists, it’s a chance to learn about Idaho’s trees while soaking up their natural splendor. Depending on the time of year, you’ll also find many roses, native plants, and perennial flowers at Arboretum Park. Well-maintained walking paths encourage leisurely strolls, and picnic tables dot the area for families who want to plan a full day in the park.

Eagle Island State Park

Sitting on the southwest outskirts of Eagle, the 545 acre public recreation area known as Eagle Island State Park is one of the Treasure Valley’s best kept secrets. Eagle Island State Park offers something for every outdoor enthusiast. Five miles of trail are available for hiking, bicycling, and equestrian activities. Beautiful grassy picnic areas and a swimming beach provide hours upon hours of fun in the sun for Treasure Valley residents, and the park’s famous water slide is a necessary summer destination for area children. Eagle Island State Park also boasts fishing access, an 18 hole disc golf course, horseshoes, volleyball, a non-motorized boating area, and a zip-line. Eagle Sports Complex

The Ada/Eagle Sports Complex and Bike Park spans over 200 acres. This multi-use facility is one of the largest of its kind in the country, and is operated by both Ada County Parks & Waterways and the City of Eagle. The park connects to the Ridge to Rivers trail system, which allows cyclists to ride from Eagle to Lucky Peak Reservoir on mountain bike trails. This extensive network of trails provides something for bicyclers of all skill levels, and includes dirt jumps, racing courses, a BMX track, and more. Though the mountain bike trails are the main attraction for many, the The Ada/Eagle Sports Complex and Bike Park also includes a skate park, an inline hockey rink, and basketball courts. Reid W. Merrill Sr. Community Park

Completed in 2003, Reid W. Merrill Sr. Community Park is a relatively recent community space that has some serious staying power. The park is extra popular with children in the summer, as it features a robust play area that includes a splash pad during daylight hours. Reid W. Merrill Sr. Community Park is unique because of its genuine wetland and riparian areas, which allow families to see Idaho plants and animals on the river in their natural state. There are also basketball courts, a volleyball court, an open gazebo, an open play field, and several picnic areas. Friendship Park

For a slightly less crowded day in the park, you can turn your attention to Friendship Park on E Ranch Drive and N Stierman Way. For a nice game of tennis, there’s no better place in Eagle to go-- Friendship Park offers top-of-the-line lighted tennis courts. It also has a nice playground, picnic tables, picnic shelters, grills, and an arch climber area. If you want to keep it calm and low key, a day at Friendship Park is always nice and breezy.

University Studies

When it comes to higher education, Eagle is close to most every respected institution in the valley. There's Boise State university in Boise, College of Idaho in Caldwell, College of Western Idaho in Nampa, Stevens–Henager College in Boise, and Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa. That's a lot of options! There's one newer institution in town, though, and for ambitious students seeking an education beyond a bachelor's degree, it's worth a look.

Concordia University School of Law opened its doors in Boise in August of 2012. Concordia is provisionally accredited by the American Bar Association, and it runs a joint law program with Boise State University, ensuring students can earn both an undergraduate degree and a law degree in six years. Concordia University School of Law is the only law school in southern Idaho, and is located in Boise at 501 West Front St. That places it right near the Idaho State Capitol, the Ada County Courthouse, and the Idaho Supreme Court building. Students at Concordia have the opportunity to study near where many of the judges and lawyers in Idaho conduct their business.

The small campus features a robust library that’s always bustling with student life. Concordia University School of Law also boasts small class sizes, which are critical when you’re studying something as intense and detail oriented as law. The school also offers many internships, externships, and mentorships so students can apply their knowledge in the real world. It’s also affordable-- yearly tuition is $10,000 below the national average for private law schools.

Bella Aquila can be fancy, but it can also be casual-- check out their daily happy hour and walk away with a full stomach and a full wallet.

Eagle Fun Days

In the heat of the summer, the entire Treasure Valley gears up for Eagle Fun Days. Every year in early or mid July, the City of Eagle puts on two days of family fun, filled to the brim with exciting events for people of all ages. The first evening of Eagle Fun Days usually begins with a handful of fun events centered around community kids. There's the ever-popular Eagle KIDS Fun Run, obstacle courses, and plenty of water activities to help the little ones beat the heat. Eagle residents are also presented with a great opportunity to meet their community police force and fire department. Then, the next day, the main event begins. There's a fun run for people of all ages, a community breakfast, live music, car shows, folk dances from various traditions, parades, water fights, BMX demos and downhill dirt bike events, street dancing, and a family bike ride once the sun sets. If you're looking for a summer event that's fun and safe for the entire family, then Eagle Fun Days has you covered. Tater Dash Mud Run

The Tater Dash Mud Run is a popular annual event that seeks to promote fitness, community togetherness, and Idaho agriculture. Hosted by Twin Oaks Farms, the event connects Treasure Valley youth to our local farmland, gives them hands-on experience with how potato farming works, and allows them to compete in a fun, muddy dash to the finish. The The Tater Dash Mud Run brings the Eagle community together for a special summer day centered around Idaho's most famous export, and also provides 30+ jobs to local youth. The run itself covers 5.2 miles on 180 acres of farmland, with over 70 unique potato-based obstacles scattered across the path. For true fitness enthusiasts, and people who want to learn a bit more about Idaho's farms and the agrarian lifestyle, the The Tater Dash Mud Run should never be missed.

Twin Oaks Farms

Twin Oaks Farms doesn't just stop at the Tater Dash Mud Run. It also offers two other popular seasonal events. In October, the farm hosts Halloween Land, which provides a huge variety of fun fall activities. There's a pumpkin patch, a haunted woods attraction, corn maze, hay rides, a bunny hill, petting zoo, potato slingshot, horse rides, a tractor pulled train ride, tether-ball, Nerf gun battles, and much more. Beginning in the colder months, Twin Oaks Farms also puts on a Winter Wonderland event. The farm is decorated with dazzling holiday lights, and families can participate in a tubing hill, hay rides, gather around the campfire, and even see native Idaho wild animals in their natural habitats. Blues and Bones Festival

During the late summer months, the Treasure Valley's music and food lovers come together at Eagle Island State Park for the Blues and Bones Festival. This laid back, family friendly event showcases the best touring blues bands from around the country. But the top notch music isn't the only attraction-- there's also world class barbecue!
